Pandemic Woes
Has been a quiet photography journey for me in 2020, due to the ongoing pandemic.
My X100V has been kept in the dry box most of the time. Hardly find any opportunity to go out to shoot with it. However, I occasionally took some random shots from my house, if the lighting and scene were ideal.
I did try on some of the film simulation receipts that I came across. Currently, my favorites are LomoChrome Metropolis and Kodakchrome. I am pleased to share some sample shots below.
After some usage
Now back to my thoughts on this camera after some usage. The main advantage of this camera is that it can produce stunning JPEG images. I can just transfer the images from the camera to my mobile phone wirelessly and share them on my social media directly without much editing.
I have spent more time taking photos than editing, which I think photographers should be doing. The big and clear viewfinder is a joy to use, you won’t miss a shot. It is much appreciated when you get to see the effect of your favorite film simulations being applied to the scene in real-time.
Egonomics
The buttons and dials are placed in the right position. I have no difficulty in reaching them. They are very tactile and can feel every distinctive click. I have customized a button to activate the ND filter, which is very handy if I ever need it. The flip screen is another added advantage. Which means I get to explore more creative angles in my composition.
The only gripe I have is the slightly longer recording time when taking photos with the clarity setting set to a higher value. Hope it can be rectified with future firmware updates.
Conclusion
To wrap up, this camera makes me want to go out to shoot more. Once the pandemic situation improves, it will be my everyday carry.
